Meanwhile, police have named three people who died in a head-on crash between a New Zealand post truck and a car at Mangaweka south of Taihape on Friday night.

The truck driver was Peter James Harland, 54, from Bulls. Mr Harland died after his truck was struck head-on by a rental car carrying Singaporean couple John Lim Chi Hong, 31, and Ho Poh Yoke, 27.

A Taihape police spokesman said the couple were on their honeymoon.

Mr Harland's truck lost its steering in the crash and plummeted down a bank. Police expected it to take a couple of days to recover the truck.
